Singer Justin Timberlake took home seven awards at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, accepting the evening’s biggest prize via video while he is on tour.
Trend of remote performances
Timberlake wowed audiences with a remote performance with his band, and not showing up was one of the biggest trend at the ceremony in Las Vegas.
“All the other finalists, Miley, Imagine Dragons, Bruno, Katy, I love you guys, it’s not a competition, but if it is, I won!” he said via videolink from his overseas tour.
Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry also made remote performances as they were on tour.
Cyrus accepted the top streaming artist award, while Perry won top female.
Emotional way to honor fallen icon
Although Timberlake was the show’s main winner, a dancing hologram of the late Michael Jackson stole the night.
It mimicked Jackson’s famous dance moves while performing “Slave to the Rhythm.”
The King of Pop dancing and singing a new song from his posthumous album Xscape prompted an emotional standing ovation.
